The Biorepository & Laboratory Services Shared Resource (BLS) is a comprehensive data and biospecimen bank (malignant and normal tissue and their derivatives, blood and bone marrow) for research along with a range of services that accompany biospecimens. The overall mission of BLS is to facilitate access to human tissue, blood and bone marrow for investigators with Institutional Review Board (IRB) approved protocols emphasizing translational research. BLS plays an essential role at Roswell Park, helping investigators to establish Biospecimen and Data Research (BDR) protocols and supporting the submission of grants by providing feasibility analysis, cost estimates and letters of support.

The Genomics Shared Resource (GSR) offers sample-to-data genomics services, with expert technical staff performing all aspects of sample preparation, quality control, assay design, and analysis. Our long-standing history and contribution to the Human Genome Program through clone generation, high throughput mapping, array technology development, and distribution of these resources worldwide provides a track record documenting our expertise. The GSR is a state-of-the-art facility that utilizes a variety of genomic platforms to accommodate any size request, and all processes are monitored using a Laboratory Information Management System (LIMS) to ensure high-quality reproducible data. The GSR offers a full spectrum of services, including Next Generation Sequencing (NGS), single-cell sequencing, spatial transcriptomics, Genome-wide SNP and copy number analysis, DNA methylation, and Sanger sequencing.

The Translational Imaging Shared Resource (TISR) provides specialized preclinical imaging services including image acquisition, quantitative image analysis, multidimensional renderings and data sets for research purposes.

The Comparative Oncology Shared Resource (COSR) offers CCSG investigators a full spectrum of care and use services for their preclinical models including barrier facilities with fully automated environmental controls for the housing of research models. Specialized husbandry with trained staff who perform all manipulations inside Biosafety cabinets for maintenance of a pathogen-free environment for models held in micro isolation (MI) housing systems. In addition to housing pre-clinical models in state-of-the-art facilities, COSR provides Specialized Surgical Services and procedural training, consultation in experimental design, irradiation services, in-house hematological testing, genotyping services, design and conduct of pre-clinical toxicological studies.

The Advanced Tissue Imaging Shared Resource (ATISR) offers streamlined, multiplexed tissue analysis that helps move your project forward. We accommodate your specific needs – from tissue sectioning, staining, imaging, spatial RNA sequencing, analysis, and interpretation of your results.

The mission of the Biostatistics & Statistical Genomics Shared Resource (BSGSR) is to collaborate in the design, oversight, implementation, analysis, publication, and reporting of scientific studies.

This includes articulating study objectives and hypotheses, grant writing, conceiving appropriate cost-effective designs and models for achievement of study objectives, assuring that modern and appropriate statistical methods are used, monitoring interim and final analyses, and co-authoring abstracts and manuscripts.

The GMP Engineering & Cell Manufacturing Facility (GEM) provides cutting-edge clean rooms, cell therapy equipment, manufacturing know-how, robust capabilities and comprehensive suite of quality assurance and control procedures.

This state-of-the-art facility provides advanced flow cytometric and morphology services at cellular and subcellular levels of resolution. The services offered by the Flow and Immune Analysis Shared Resource (FIASR) include investigator access to equipment 24/7, education and consultation services, comprehensive sample processing, data acquisition and data analysis services, luminex cytokine, chemokine and growth factor quantification, and core flow cytometry services for investigator and biotech sponsored clinical trials.

The Biomedical Research Informatics Shared Resource (BRISR) provides consultations and services for investigators and study teams in the areas of clinical research, informatics, and data science. BRISR helps researchers harness internal and external data resources and provide informatics-driven solutions for clinical and translational research.

We offer the infrastructure and processes to establish and monitor data standards, quality, integration and distribution across Roswell Park and aim to make research findable, accessible, interoperable, and reusable (FAIR). Additionally, BRISR offers educational and training opportunities. We provide services in three main areas: (1) Clinical data management and delivery for research, (2) Custom software development for research, and (3) Artificial intelligence analysis for clinical and bioinformatics research.

The Bioinformatics Shared Resource (BIOINF) provides state-of-the-art bioinformatics assistance for the design, analysis and interpretation of genomics, proteomics and other high-resolution, high-throughput-based studies for better understanding of cancer biology, thereby facilitating translation of cancer omics discoveries to cancer treatment.

We direct the design of high-throughput experiments, raw omics data processing, data analysis and interpretation, data mining and integration, assist in the design and deployment of appropriate informatics infrastructure for data sharing and management, review and prepare grants and manuscripts, software evaluation, new method and database development, and provide bioinformatics education and hands-on training for investigators. Our expertise ensures that the yield of useful information from the scientific studies conducted at Roswell Park is maximized while costs are minimized.

The Gene Targeting and Transgenic Shared Resource (GeTT) enables investigators to modify the murine genome for the systematic dissection of the genetic, molecular, cellular and physiological mechanisms underlying complex biological processes.

Traditionally, this has been done by creation of transgenics through pronuclear microinjection and knocking out or knocking in genes via mouse ES cell technologies.

This is no longer the case given the recent advances of genome-editing tools such as ZFNs, TALENs and most recently CRISPR/Cas, which allow for a targeted approach by injection directly into the embryo.

In general, these methods are proving to be faster and more efficient than traditional means.

In addition, the core also provides investigators with mouse reproductive services such as cryopreservation of valuable mouse strains and IVF (in vitro fertilization) to aid in mouse cohort generation, especially when faced with increasing complex genotype demands.

The Bioanalytics, Metabolomics & Pharmacokinetics Shared Resource (BMPK) provides highly sensitive measurements for an extensive array of chemotherapeutic agents and metabolites to support basic research and preclinical/clinical drug development, in addition to other cancer centers, academic institutions, and industry.
