The Exeter Centre for Cytomics (EXCC) is an ISO 9001-certified, LEAF Gold-accredited, and ISAC SRL-recognised Centre of Excellence, placing it among the world’s leading facilities for cytometry and single-cell analysis. We combine internationally recognised scientific expertise with state-of-the-art technology to deliver integrated solutions for both academic and industrial partners.
Our capabilities span high-dimensional spectral cytometry, conventional flow cytometry, nano cytometry, imaging cytometry, spatial biology, and multi-omics (proteomics and transcriptomics). We operate Cytek Aurora spectral cytometers with up to 64-colour capability, the CytoFLEX LX for robust multiparameter conventional cytometry, and the CytoFLEX nano for ultra-sensitive detection of viruses, extracellular vesicles, and submicron particles. For aquatic and environmental applications, our FlowCam 8400 imaging system enables real-time visualisation and analysis of plankton, microbial communities, and other aquatic particulates.
In high-content cellular imaging, our Amnis ImageStreamX MKII merges the quantitative power of flow cytometry with the detailed imagery of microscopy, enabling advanced morphological and functional studies at the single-cell level. This is complemented by the MACSima Imaging Cytomics System, capable of spatial molecular mapping with more than 400 biomarkers, and by single-cell multi-omics platforms such as the 10x Genomics Chromium X and Luminex FlexMAP 3D.
EXCC supports a wide range of applications, from immunotherapy development, precision oncology, and regenerative medicine to environmental monitoring, plant sciences, and nanoparticle characterisation. All services are underpinned by advanced AI-driven analytics, leveraging R, Python, TensorFlow, and PyTorch on high-performance computing platforms to integrate and interpret complex datasets.
Through tailored assay development, comprehensive panel design, advanced computational solutions, and strong collaborations with biotechnology, pharmaceutical, clinical research, agricultural, and plant science partners, Centre for Cytomics empowers researchers to move seamlessly from discovery to application. Its collaborative approach, robust educational programmes, and state-of-the-art technology position it as a key partner for developing new diagnostics, therapeutics, and solutions in environmental and agricultural sciences.
